2017 EVENT DATE ANNOUNCED SOON

5 mile & 2km Fun Run around Cardiff Bay
Entry From only £5

About

Set in the heart of Cardiff’s historic Bay, the Cardiff Bay 5-mile race is a flat, fast and friendly event for all ages and abilities.

A rarely run but extremely competitive distance, the Cardiff Bay 5-mile is the perfect challenge for elite and club athletes as well as those looking to keep fit, raise money for charity, or supplement their training programme. The event has seen some fast times over the years and always draws a strong field of athletes of all abilities.

With no pressure or obligation to set record times or run all the way round, whether you take part in the fun run or 5-mile race, join in and put a spring in your step.

INFORMATION ON THE 2017 EVENT WILL BE ANNOUNCED SOON

Unfortunately, the event will not take place in 2016. Conflicts with other events meant we were unable to secure the Roald Dahl Plass for use as our start/finish area, which we believe is essential for the event as it continues to grow. It was felt possible alternatives would not be suitable as we strive to deliver a bigger and better event.

We have been working hard to secure an alternative date, but unfortunately were unable to find a date that suited all stakeholders and the size and style of the event. We apologise to all of those disappointed by this news but look forward to welcoming you all back for the Cardiff Bay 5 Mile in 2017.

Our Charity Partner

cystic-fibrosisThe Cystic Fibrosis Trust is the only UK-wide charity making a daily difference to the lives of people with cystic fibrosis and those who care for them. We are proud to be the official charity partner of the Cardiff Bay 5-Mile again in 2015.

What is cystic fibrosis?

Most people don’t know what cystic fibrosis is until someone close to them is affected. They soon discover it’s a life-shortening genetic condition that slowly destroys the lungs and digestive system. There are over 10,000 people with cystic fibrosis in the UK; only half live to celebrate their 40th birthday.

1 in 25 of us carries the faulty gene that causes cystic fibrosis; most without knowing it.
5 babies are born with cystic fibrosis each week
2 people lose their lives every week to the condition

Why should you run with Team CF?

Because you can help bring change, now and for the future. We are here to beat cystic fibrosis for good. We invest in cutting-edge research, drive up standards of care, offer support for everyone affected by cystic fibrosis, and campaign hard and shout loud about the issues that matter.

The Course

Taking in some stunning views across Cardiff Bay, the Cardiff Bay 5-mile course is flat, fast and fun. The 2km fun run is also a brilliant short route for anyone to have a go at. On a warm spring morning (fingers crossed), where else would you want to be than running in the heart of Cardiff’s historic bay?

The start is situated in Roald Dahl Plass, a few hundred meters from the impressive facade of the Wales Millennium Centre. From here, the route then leads on to Lloyd George Avenue before then turning back toward Cardiff Bay and the Norwegian Church. After passing the Norwegian Church, the course takes you round the BBC’s Roath Lock studios before starting along the highlight of the course, the Cardiff Bay Barrage, with picturesque views across the bay. From here, it’s time to head for home. After passing the Dr Who Experience and the Norwegian Church for the second time, it’s then time to turn along the boardwalk, under the bridge and into the finish line and a rapturous welcome home from friends family and spectators.
